The Responsible Tech Community: bringing together a broad range of groups in order to build a Responsible Tech pipeline that is diverse, multidisciplinary, & aligned with the public interest.
We have had thousands of attendees to join our livestream and in-person gatherings (NYC, SF, Seattle), over 200 volunteer collaborators work on our reports (Responsible Tech Guide, Improving Social Media, The Business Case for AI Ethics), and over 250 speakers and interviewees across civil society, government, and industry. The list below is our our previous speakers and interviewees.
We need NEW VOICES involved in building a better tech future, which is why we have intentionally brought together a mix of artists, designers, advocates, academics, attorneys, technologists, students, social workers, sociologists, psychologists, philosophers, and more. We need everyone involved in co-creating a better tech future.
Our organization is committed to building the Responsible Tech pipeline, making it more diverse, multidisciplinary, and aligned with the public interest. We are the connective tissue between the diverse range of individuals (college students, grad students, young professional, career changers) that want to break into the nascent field, universities that are educating the next generation of responsible technologists, and industry looking to find these individuals.
All Tech Is Human was launched in 2018 with the express purpose of uniting a divers range of stakeholders across civil society, government, and industry. This was readily apparent at our inaugural ethical tech summit held in Manhattan, which attracted attendees from across the United States and Europe, with backgrounds ranging from the United Nations, to Facebook, to Harvard Berkman Klein Center, to the Mayor's Office, and heavy interest from college and grad students. Our partners included Mozilla, Civil Hall, and the ADL. We set the tone of being the "meta-connector" that promotes community, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration to grow the ecosystem.
We have been unique in the broadness of our participants that cuts across so many different backgrounds and perspectives; this has been quite intentional, as our goal is to improve the development and deployment of technologies through collective action and a new Responsible Tech talent pipeline. This is why we have had guests the World Economic Forum, planned an event with the Obama Foundation held at Tumblr, partnered with NYU's Alliance for Public Interest Technology, and have participants from Data & Society, Center for Humane Technology, Twitter, TikTok, Google, Microsoft, IBM, CNN, New York Times, etc.
Some of the individuals that have spoken at All Tech Is Human include Safiya Noble, Yael Eisenstat, Meredith Broussard, Sarah T. Roberts, Kathy Pham, Yoav Schlesinger, John C. Havens, Sara Holoubek, Douglas Ruskoff, Kate Klonick, Dipayan Ghosh, FCC's Jessica Rosenworcel, Timnit Gebru, Congressman Jerry McNerney, Charlton McIlwain, Mutale Nkonde, Clara Tsao, Nora Benavidez, Raina Kuma, Rumman Chowdhury, Alexis Wichowski, Rana Sarkar (Consul General of Canada in Silicon Valley), Courtney Cogburn, Mona Sloane, Chris Wiggins, Lisa Lewin, Mary Madden, Flynn Coleman, Mark Latonero, Susan Etlinger, and more.
We have intentionally created a community that is welcoming to a broad range of perspectives. We believe that we can change the direction of tech by altering the people who work in it, with a new generation of responsible technologists and changemakers that are diverse, multidisciplinary, and ethically-aligned toward the public interest. The individuals below have been involved in projects and events such as the Responsible Tech Guide, our report on Improving Social Media, our report on The Business Case for AI Ethics, our livestream series, our inaugural ethical tech summit (Fall 2018), All Tech Is Human: San Francisco, All Tech Is Human: Seattle, and All Tech Is Human: NYC.
