NYU TO COLLABORATE WITH ALL TECH IS HUMAN ON UPCOMING PUBLIC INTEREST TECHNOLOGY CAREER FAIR FOR THE FALL

NYU to Begin Planning Large-Scale Hybrid Event for College Students and Grad Students Looking to Build a Civic-Minded Career in Technology

For Immediate Release

New York, New York--All Tech Is Human announced today a collaboration with representatives of the Business and Society Program at NYU Stern, the Center for Responsible AI at NYU Tandon, and NYU’s Alliance for Public Interest Technology to help create its inaugural Public Interest Technology Career Fair that will take place in the Fall of 2021. The event is being planned as an exciting blended (physical and digital) gathering that will bring together a diverse range of individuals interested in the nascent field of public interest technology, which is broadly defined as “technology used to serve the public good.”

UPDATE: A BETTER TECH: PUBLIC INTEREST TECHNOLOGY CONVENTION & CAREER FAIR will take place fully online on October 14th & 15th! Please sign up on the A BETTER TECH website. We are currently gathering attendees, presenters, recruiters, and sponsors.

Public interest technology has taken on a growing sense of urgency related to the increasing awareness that technology is not neutral. Gen Z students and recent graduates will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the development and deployment of technologies is aligned with our societal goals, and the upcoming career fair is a valuable opportunity to hear about new careers, listen to some of the key players in the field, attend a wide array of panels, and network with peers.

The collaboration  with All Tech Is Human, an organization committed to informing and inspiring the next generation of responsible technologists, is aimed at greatly expanding the reach of the career fair and to tap into the organization’s community across civil society, government, and the tech industry. All Tech Is Human serves as a connective tissue between individuals interested in the public interest technology, universities educating the next generation of civic-minded technologists, and industry that is looking to hiring these individuals. As defined by New America’s Public Interest Technology University Network, who are supporting the project with a grant, “Public Interest Technology adopts best practices in human-centered design, product development, process re-engineering, and data science to solve public problems in an inclusive, iterative manner—continuously learning, improving, and aiming to deliver better outcomes to the public.”

“The NYU PIT-UN career fair will help students keen on building a career in public interest and responsible technology to learn about the field, connect with key players, and make long lasting connections with peers and mentors,” says Dr. Mona Sloane, Affiliate at the NYU Center for Responsible AI and Adjunct Professor at NYU Tandon, as well as Fellow at the Institute for Public Knowledge, “and it will help companies and organizations learn about the newest developments in the field at large.”

“I know for sure that lots of the brightest NYU students are interested in making the world a better place using technology, and my hope is that this event will enable them to make their voices heard within the tech community while forging meaningful career pathways,” says Dr. Matt Statler, Richman Family Director of Business Ethics and Social Impact Programming, and Clinical Associate Professor of Business and Society at NYU Stern School of Business.

“We desperately need a career fair geared toward young individuals looking to build a better tech future and ensure that it is aligned with the public interest,” says David Ryan Polgar, founder of All Tech Is Human. “Collaborating with NYU on this upcoming career fair is an incredible opportunity to bring together a broad collection of inspiring technologists and advocates with passionate students and recent grads looking for pathways into the field. We hope to not only have an impactful event in the Fall, but create a template that can be replicated by universities across the country and beyond.”

The team  is currently gathering interest for the upcoming public interest career fair. Students or graduates who would like to attend, or public interest technologists and advocates interested in potentially speaking, can express their interest on the Interest Form. In addition, related organizations that would like to inquire about partnership potential or companies inquiring about sponsorship can make their interest known through the form.
